Everywhere you look, you’ll see evidence of the earth’s forces at work: deep canyons, high bluffs, unusual rock formations, and even lava flows. Sure, this area is a geologist’s dream, but its terrain also delivers big adventure opportunities. The Snake River is the heart of the valley’s recreation. Make a stop at the Perrine Bridge that spans the Snake River Canyon and watch as B.A.S.E. jumpers float to the ground below, or speed along a zipline inside the canyon.
Throughout the region, see waterfalls, enjoy a hot spring soak or paddle on clear spring waters. Spend an afternoon at Shoshone Falls, the “Niagara of the West.” This waterfall stands higher than Niagara, hence the nickname, and makes for some stunning views. Take a relaxing drive through the peaceful countryside and make your way to City of Rocks National Reserve near Almo, where granite columns and spires stand guard over a 500-acre valley.
